Mayorga Guatemala Santa Elisa Pachup

Mayorga Coffee Roasters is a Rockville, MD based coffee roaster. They offer variety of coffees from all the major regions. Like many other local roasters they focus on sourcing directly from the farmer and sustainable practices.

From the roaster:  Medium to full body with a balanced spiciness, tangy cocoa flavor, and a bold finish.

Method:  French press

Review and tl;dr after the jump...

Appearance (17/20):  The bean as a matte brown roast on it, not glossy at all. The roast looks fairly even, no signs of over-roasting or burning.

Smell (20/20):  The grounds have a slight peanut butter smell to them, which is very pleasant in my opinion. The brew has a wonderful char-grilled type smell that gives off notes of caramelization. The smell hints at a  roasty, creamy sweet flavor.

Taste (15/20):  Unfortunately, for me, the taste falls a little flat. It definitely doesn't live up to the delicious smell wafting from the brewed cup. There is an initial tartness that give way to a nice woody flavor but

Mouthfeel (12/20):  The cup comes across a little thin and I think it would definitely benefit from a longer roast to get a more flavorful, full bodied cup.

Overall (15/20): Not a bad coffee by any means and the price is definitely wallet-friendly at $10.99 per 12oz bag, but there isn't anything that separates it from the pack.

Score: 79

TL;DR - You could call it a "lite" version of Mayorga's Cinco de Junio and for the same price I'd reach for the Cinco every time.
